The laugh track remains firmly under human control
It’s raw. It’s contagious. It’s my favorite thing. Unmapped joy.

People cracking up has me cracking up. Take that, ChatGPT

Entrepreneurs carry a lot of shit. Risk, stress, payroll, family pressure, the fear of something imploding, failure. Did I mention payroll?

But my god can they find joy in things. Even absurd things and small things, failure, slapstick and human error come up in conversation. Some stories rise to the level of Monty Python. Some moments are mere gaffes. We're all human. Shit happens.

In this current epoch in which machines can write emails, build brand books, design websites, code everything—do whatever— laughter, at least for the moment, still belongs to us. I am reminded of that constantly when I interview entrepreneurs. In between the highs and lows of startups, every entrepreneur has a hilarious story that makes them laugh.

Capturing these moments as a journalist is the best part of storytelling. It’s this raw, deep reaction. And that reaction is contagious. It’s my favorite thing – this unbridled, unmapped joy.

No matter what’s happening in the world or how hopeless something might seem, humans somehow keep finding their way back to it – the laugh track. Maybe it's an escape pod of some sort. If it is, count me in on the laughing escape pod.

Laughter is still the heartbeat of our stories. It's a sign that we are human. That we feel. We should hold on to that and protect it.

So here’s my thinking: let your freak flag fly. Laugh your face off. Don't take your pitch deck so seriously.
